| MOGAMI River Swan Park |

The park was built on the banks of the Mogami River estuary. It is the largest swan migration site in Japan, with around 10,000 swans flying in from Siberia every winter, making it the largest single area in Japan. The first groups of swans make their appearance every year in early October, and as autumn deepens, their numbers increase, spending the winter in the Shonai Plain until early March. The swans go out to the fields during the day, so their numbers decrease, so if you are looking to see swans, we recommend visiting in the mornings and/or evenings. There is also a swan monument.

| TOBISHIMA Island |

An inhabited island off the coast of Sakata Port. It was formed by an underwater eruption about 10 million years ago, when part of an underwater mountain range emerged above sea level to become the island. The island has an average elevation of about 50 meters and a flat plateau-like topography. The cargo-passenger liner named "Tobishima" operates from Sakata Port. There are no buses, taxis, or rental cars on the island. Tourist bicycles and electric-assisted bicycles (the latter is for a fee) are available except in winter season. Roads run along the coastline and on the plateau in the center of the island, and as most of the island is flat, it is easy to get around by bicycle. There are also no traffic lights on the island. Once it had been selected as one of Japan's 100 Most Unexplored Places.

Located on a cape facing the Sea of Japan, Tsuruoka City Kamo Aquarium
is the only aquarium in Yamagata Prefecture specializing in jellyfish.
The aquarium has one of the largest jellyfish exhibits in the world, and
has been recognized by the Guinness World Records for the number of types.
You will be overwhelmed by the "Jellyfish Dream Theater," where
more than 10,000 moon jellyfish raised in the aquarium float in a large
tank with a diameter of 5 meters and a weight of 40 tons. The aquarium
also exhibits about 140 types of fish that live off the coast of the this
area, and also holds sea lion shows and black-tailed gull feeding shows.
There is a restaurant that mainly serves jellyfish dishes. The aquarium
is scheduled to close for renovation work from November 2025 till the end
of Mrch 2026...

Mt. CHOKAIZAN is a beautiful mountain located on the border between Akita and Yamagata prefectures, and is the second highest peak in the Tohoku region, formed by volcanic activity approximately 600,000 years ago. There is a shrine on the summit which had been built in ancient times. It has been the subject of mountain worship since ancient times. It is a composite volcano with many parasitic volcanoes, including a new mountain on the central crater cone, and the many eruptions that have occurred in the past have created a diverse topography. The surrounding area is filled with elements that enhance the mountain's appeal, such as a crater lake decorated with day lilies and majestic snowfields. Camping in tents is not permitted on the mountain.
