| TOBISHIMA Island |
an island floating in the Sea of Japan |
64N002 |
 |
An inhabited island off the coast of Sakata Port. It was formed by an underwater eruption about 10 million years ago, when part of an underwater mountain range emerged above sea level to become the island. The island has an average elevation of about 50 meters and a flat plateau-like topography. The cargo-passenger liner named "Tobishima" operates from Sakata Port. There are no buses, taxis, or rental cars on the island. Tourist bicycles and electric-assisted bicycles (the latter is for a fee) are available except in winter season. Roads run along the coastline and on the plateau in the center of the island, and as most of the island is flat, it is easy to get around by bicycle. There are also no traffic lights on the island. Once it had been selected as one of Japan's 100 Most Unexplored Places.

| SANKYO Warehouse |
histrical rice warehouse |
64C003 |
 |
Sankyo Warehouse is a rice warehouse (double-roofed, moisture-proof interior
and low-temperature storage) and is designated as a national historic site.
Built in 1893 to store the large amounts of rice harvested in the Shonai
Plain, the facility is still preserved to this day, and its white walls,
black wooden fences, and unique landscape of rows of zelkova trees are
captivating. The rows of zelkova trees behind the warehouse have been featured
frequently on television and in magazines, and are the most popular photo
spot in Sakata. You can purchase a variety of Sakata souvenirs at the adjacent
shop operating by Sakata City Tourist and Products Center.
