MATSUGASAKI Park located at the site of Yonezawa Castle 63N001
Matsugasaki Park is located at the site of Yonezawa Castle. It is also a famous cherry blossom viewing spot, and 200 cherry trees bloom along the water moat every year in mid-to-late of April. The cherry blossoms reflected on the surface of the moat and the contrast between the cherry blossoms and the red bridge over the moat are very picturesque, and these cherry blossoms turn vibrant red in late October to early November. Yonezawa Castle was completely demolished in 1873, and the castle ruins were opened to the public as Matsugasaki Park in the following year. The remains of the main citadel are now the grounds of Uesugi Shrine, which enshrines UESUGI Kenshin, the hero of the Sengoku period and the founder of the clan.

These rustic works, full of rustic charm, have a certain dignity and are beloved by many enthusiasts. Shrine for Dogs and Cats shrines enshrining dogs and cats 63C006
These shrines are rare even in Japan, as they enshrine dogs and cats. These two shrines have legends from the 8th century about a dog and a cat who each saved the villagers from misfortune. The dog defeated a giant raccoon dog and lost his life in the process. The cat killed a large snake hiding in the attic while dying. As a result the village prospered. Many worshippers come to offer photographs and collars as a memorial for their beloved dogs and cats, and to pray for their health. Every year on the fourth Saturday of July, a National Pet Memorial Festival is held in front of Shrine for dog. During winter, the shrines may be closed due to snowfall.

Mt. IIDE famous for pretty alpine plants 63N007
Mt. IIDE is located in Bandai-Asahi National Park and is counted among 100 famous mountains in Japan. It is famous for its pretty alpine plants. Iidesan Shrine is enshrined at the summit of Mt. Ide, and it has been visited by many people since ancient times as a mountain of faith. There are hiking trails on all sides, but it is difficult to climb Mt. Ide alone, so it is common to reach the summit by traversing it. Because the mountain is so large, all the trails are long, the difference in altitude from the trailhead to the summit is about 1,500 meters, and there is permanent snow, so it is considered a mountain for advanced climbers, and sufficient equipment is required to reach the summit.
