The former Kaichi School was built in 1876 and later moved to its current location. It is a pseudo-Western style school building from the early Meiji period. It is famouse as a representative building of elementary school architecture from the era of civilization and enlightenment.
In 2019, it was designated as a National Treasure in Japan. It's currently a branch of the Matsumoto City Museum.
