Kesennuma Fishing Port, which faces the Pacific Ocean, has Iwaizaki, located
at the southernmost tip of Sanriku Fukko National Park, is a cape at the
entrance to Kesennuma Bay. The limestone geology has been eroded by seawater
over many years, and at the tip of the cape is Shiofukiiwa (Shiofukiiwa
means "rock that erupts water" in Japanese), where a dynamic
eruption can be seen every time waves crash into the rock. The nearby Ryu
no Matsu (means "Dragon Pine" in Japanes) is a must-see. It's
a single pine tree that miraculously survived among the many trees damaged
by the tsunami caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake. It was named
after its resemblance to a dragon rising.
