Hirosaki is the number one producer of apples in Japan, and its catchphrase
is "Hirosaki, the apple-colored city". At Hirosaki Apple Park,
where you can enjoy apples with all five senses - sight, hearing, smell,
touch, and taste - there are about 2,300 apple trees of 80 varieties planted
on the vast grounds. In early May, when the apple blossoms are in full
bloom, the park holds the Hirosaki Apple Flower Festival. During the festival,
there will be free distribution of baked apples, a chance to try picking
apples, and live entertainment such as live Tsugaru shamisen performances.
You can also try harvesting (for a fee) from early August to early November.
Admission is free.

It was developed on land that was once used as a siding for the Seikan
Ferry and is comprised primarily of tourist and shopping facilities. The
Aomori Prefecture Tourist Center named ASPM (Aomori Sightseeing Products
Mansion), with its distinctive triangular exterior, where various events
are held, is a landmark of Aomori City along with the Aomori Bay Bridge.

Kuroishi Tsuyu Yakisoba (fried noodle with soup), a local B-class gourmet
dish from Kuroishi City, is usually made by frying chewy, flat noodles
in Worcestershire sauce, topping them with an overwhelming amount of sauce
and adding fried tempura bits and spring onions. It has been eaten for
about 70 years now. But there are now several variations depending on the
restaurant. One theory is that it began when a busy waiter mistakenly put
Yakisoba in ramen soup.
