SHINJO Festival |
one of famouse float festivals n Japan |
|

The Shinjo Festival is a float festival held every year from August 24th
to 26th. Its history is long, dating back to 1756 when it was held to bring
hope to the people of the domain who had been devastated by the great famine
of the previous year, and to pray for a good harvest. A historical picture
scroll unfolds one after another, including a procession of 20 floats competing
for splendor, an ancient procession of 200 samurai and priests, and an
elegant dance performed at the ruins of Shinjo Castle. It is one of the
UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The floats are reproductions of Kabuki
and fairy tales, and are free to decorate in various ways, except for the
mandatory decoration of mountains, cherry blossoms, peonies, pine trees,
and waterfalls. |

The tree species is the same as the natural cedars in Mogami Gorge, and
is also known as Jindai Cedar. It is estimated to be about 1,000 years
old. It is about 20 meters tall, has a circumference of 6.3 meters, and
a branch spread of 17 meters. The mountain god is enshrined at its base.

MOGAMI RIVER Boat Trip |
the beautiful scenery of the four seasons |
|
|

The appeal of a MOGAMI River boat trip is the dynamic and spectacular scenery of Mogami Gorge, which shows a completely different side with each
season: pink mountain cherry blossoms in spring, fresh greenery in early
summer, orange and yellow leaves in autumn, and snowy landscapes of black
and white on the mountains on both banks in winter. You'll be overwhelmed
by the majestic scenery of the mountains looming on both banks. This is
a regular route that operates all year round and is open to single passengers
without reservations. The travel distance is approximately 12 kilometers,
and the boat ride takes about 60 minutes. |
