| Nagasaki Ken is also home to many of the most fascinating, beautiful, and
mysterious places in Japan. |
| Nagasaki Ken ("Ken" in Japanese means prefecture) is located
in the Kyushu region of Japan. Its capital is Nagasaki City. It is known
for having the most islands in Japan, including the Goto Islands, Iki Island,
and Tsushima Island. The climate is generally mild, with little temperature
difference, due to the warm Tsushima Current. Nagasaki is home to two World
Heritage Sites including Gunkanjima, Oura Cathedral and so on, as well
as historical tourist attractions such as Dejima, which was born from Nagasaki's
history of international exchange as one of Japan's few international trading
ports during the country's isolationist period in the early modern period.
Nagasaki City was hit by an atomic bomb on August 9, 1945, and, along with
Hiroshima, became a disaster area. However, it recovered after the war
and is now a city lined with modern buildings. (Remnants of the bombing
remain in Peace Park and around the hypocenter.). |
