BEPPU Onsen (Beppu City)

Oita Ken ("Ken" in Japanese means prefecture), located in the Kyushu region, promotes its hot springs with the slogan "Oita, Japan's No. 1 Hot Spring Prefecture". Its capital is Oita City. It has the highest number of hot springs and the highest volume of hot spring water in Japan. Although it is located on the western edge of the Seto Inland Sea, a large proportion of the land is mountainous behind it, and the climate varies greatly by region. Both its agriculture and fisheries are luxury-oriented, and the prefecture is characterized by high production value relative to production volume. As the prefecture boasts the highest geothermal power generation in the country, Oita Prefecture has the highest self-sufficiency rate for natural energy of any prefecture in Japan.
