Tokushima Ken ("Ken" in Japanese means prefecture) is located in the Shikoku region, the smallest of the four main islands that make up the Japanese archipelago. Its capital is Tokushima City. Generally, all areas are warm, with heavy rainfall in summer and autumn and little precipitation or snowfall in winter. The prefecture is divided into three regions: eastern, southern, and western. The prefecture is mountainous, accounting for approximately 80% of its total area. Many mountains exceed 1,000 meters. Mount Tsurugi, the highest peak in Tokushima Ken, is the watershed that divides the prefecture into north and south, and the Yoshino River, flowing north of Mount Tsurugi, carves the deep gorges of the scenic Oboke and Koboke gorges.
