Shizuoka Ken ("Ken" in Japanese means prefecture) is located in the Chubu region (Tokai region) of Japan and is one of the nation's leading industrial prefectures. Its prefectural capital is Shizuoka City. Due to the influence of the Kuroshio Current, the plains and coastal areas are extremely warm, even compared to Honshu, but the mountainous areas in the north have large elevation differences, resulting in extreme temperature differences between regions. Shizuoka Prefecture is generally divided into three regions: eastern, central, and western. The prefecture also has many tourist attractions, including World Heritage sites such as Mount Fuji, and many famous hot springs, including Atami hot spring resort.
