Yamanashi Ken ("Ken" in Japanese means prefecture) is an inland prefecture that does not border the sea. Its capital is Kofu City. It is surrounded by mountains on all sides, including Mount Fuji, Japan's highest peak, to the south, and the Akaishi Mountains, including Mount Kitadake, Japan's second highest peak, to the west. Separated by mountains, there are large regional differences in climate. Due to the well-developed transportation routes between the prefecture and Tokyo, travel between the two is relatively easy, and there has long been active exchange between the two. It is divided into two regions, and the two also have very different cultures.
