Saitama Ken ("Ken" in Japanese means prefecture) is located in the Kanto region, which makes up the greater Tokyo area. The prefecture's cities and towns are called as satellite cities of Tokyo. The prefectural capital is Saitama City. It is one of Japan's eight inland prefectures. Although it does not have a trading port, it has the largest population of any inland prefecture in Japan. Many of the prefecture is flat land known as the Kanto Plain. Summer season is hotter than in other prefectures, and many areas experience some of the hottest temperatures in Japan. Precipitation is generally low, with particularly low winter precipitation.
