Mt. CHOKAIZAN |
second highest peak in the Tohoku region |
|

Mt. CHOKAIZAN is a beautiful mountain located on the border between Akita
and Yamagata prefectures, and is the second highest peak in the Tohoku
region, formed by volcanic activity approximately 600,000 years ago. There
is a shrine on the summit which had been built in ancient times. It has
been the subject of mountain worship since ancient times. It is a composite
volcano with many parasitic volcanoes, including a new mountain on the
central crater cone, and the many eruptions that have occurred in the past
have created a diverse topography. The surrounding area is filled with
elements that enhance the mountain's appeal, such as a crater lake decorated
with day lilies and majestic snowfields. Camping in tents is not permitted
on the mountain. |
