Akita Ken("Ken" in Japanese means prefecture) faces the Sea of Japan and is roughly divided into three regions: the north, the center, and the south. Many ruins have been excavated in Akita Ken as evidence that people have lived there since the Paleolithic period. Many stone tools, such as knife-shaped tools, that have been crafted by hand have been excavated from these ruins.
